Your privacy matters.
This page explains what information Rookwise collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is maintained by Rookwise and is not an independent audit. Last updated: 7 July 2026.
1. Information we collect
- Account details you give us (name, email, grade level, school name if provided, language).
- Learning activity: tasks, flashcards, quizzes, chats with Rook, study time, achievements, and progress.
- Parent-linked information when a parent connects to a learner via an access code, plus a PIN hash for the Parent Hub.
- Payment metadata (never card numbers) when you subscribe, via our payment processor.
- Basic device information (browser, approximate region, error logs) used to keep the service running.
2. Student privacy
Learner chats, tasks, flashcards, quiz attempts, and progress are private to the learner's account. Row-level security in our database means one learner cannot read another learner's data. We do not sell learner information. We do not advertise to learners.
3. Parent privacy
Parents create their own account and link to their child using an access code that the child (or the child's account holder) generates. The Parent Hub is protected by a PIN that only the parent knows. Parents see summaries of their child's progress; they do not see the raw content of every chat.
Safety and trusted adults
Rook keeps your learning conversations private. If something suggests that you or someone else may be in serious danger, Rookwise may alert a trusted adult who can help. Safety alerts contain a short, redacted summary rather than the full conversation, and a parent alert may be withheld for human review when notifying a guardian could increase risk.
4. How we use AI
- Prompts and responses are sent to trusted AI providers to generate answers.
- Providers process this content to serve your request. We do not use learner content to train third-party models.
- We store your chats so you can return to a lesson, and so parents (with permission) can see study activity.
- You can delete your account at any time to remove your chat history.
5. Cookies and similar technology
We use a small number of cookies and local storage entries to keep you signed in, remember your language preference, and measure basic, non-identifying usage. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising.
6. Data security
Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider — we never see them. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to production systems is restricted, and privileged operations run only on our server. No online service is 100% secure, and we improve our controls continuously.
7. POPIA (South Africa)
- Access and correct your personal information.
- Object to certain processing.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
8. GDPR-ready for international users
As we expand internationally, we're structured to meet GDPR-style requirements: lawful basis for processing (consent and contract), data minimisation, transparency, and clear data-subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability, and objection). European users will be able to exercise these rights through the same support@rookwiseai.com channel.
